Because we couldn't actually take Surly beer with us, we brought Surly with in spirit.
Craig (the one stuck taking the photos) and I (Chris, the one in the photos) recently took a trip to the Black Hills and surrounding areas of South Dakota.

Unfortunately, getting to the Black Hills from the Twin Cities requires driving across South Dakota, which, needless to say, isn't that interesting. (Kids, we do not recommend that you take photos while driving a motorcycle!) |

No trip to SD would be complete without a stop at the Corn Palace or Wall Drug... |
|
...or a quick ride on a giant jackelope! |

Fortunately, as you leave Wall, and get
to the
Badlands, the scenery improves.
Ooh, scenery!
Another obligatory stop, especially while taking a motorcycle trip through South Dakota, is Sturgis. Since neither of us ride Harley's, or are into the insanity of the August Rally, June seemed to be a good time to visit.
Is it just us, or is there something odd about a Harley Davidson store, in the home of the world-famous Sturgis Black Hills Rally, not actually selling motorcycles?

You know, Devil's Tower isn't really that big! (Note: Driving to Devils' Tower from Sturgis by way of Montana is not the shortest route!)

But those are really big heads. |
After nearly 60 years, the Crazy Horse monument is starting to show some signs of real progress.
Caves (Jewel in this case) are really dark.

And thus ended our trip to South Dakota. It was another long, boring drive back to Minnesota. Fortunately, we were able to follow our Black Hills motorcycle vacation with a vacation at the lake. Unfortunately, being in small-town northern Minnesota (Osakis) also meant we had to wait even longer before we could enjoy another Surly.
